In October I did a capsule wardrobe challenge with my friend Tidydad (aka Tyler) where I could only use 30 items from my wardrobe. Now that was crazy, but we did it, I survived and I get to wear whatever I want again!
How did I pull this off? I had the items already in my closet to make this work, high-quality basics in neutral colors, items that fit me well instead of being trendy and good shoes. I invest in a few key pieces that are neutral and good quality and can be worn over and over again and it makes all the difference.
First up—JEANS!
So how do you help your husband get from gym clothes to date night? First the dad jeans, they’ve got to go. My go to jeans are from Paige Denim, they look timeless and will last you through all the changing trends. It’s easy to throw on anything with these jeans and look put together.
My favorite athletic wear—RUGBY SHIRTS!
A good shirt that fits well and can be layered under a jean jacket or a sweater is my next go to. One of the favorites that I used in my 30 day challenge is my Rowing Blazers rugby shirt. These go with everything and are easy to layer with. Also it’s okay to have the same shirt in different prints, if you find something you love, just buy another color!
Let’s talk SHOES!
Shoes are a key part of the outfit. We live in an era when we can get awesome, cool shoes and we don’t need to be wearing the old school New Balance dad shoes. These white Autry shoes go with everything and are stylish.
Lastly, neat grooming can make all the difference for a guy who is going from gym clothes to date night in five minutes. A good haircut, a well-kept beard helps you finish look put together and brings everything together perfectly.
