March Recap with The Modern Dad: Finances, Family, and Fun Unboxings

March is that weird time of year where it’s technically spring, but if you live in Utah, the weather refuses to cooperate. One day it’s sunshine and 60°, the next it’s snowing and I’m pulling the snowblower out again. But somehow, March managed to be one of our most productive and exciting months yet—and not just because we’re finally on the downhill side of daylight savings recovery.

This month was a mix of reflection, planning, cheering for our kids, and unboxing all the things (yes, literally opening boxes—we’ll get to that).

His and Hers Unboxing: A New Kind of Couple’s Therapy?

One of the highlights over on Instagram this month has been our couple unboxing videos. I open the packages Emily orders, and she opens the ones I order. You’d think this could cause chaos (or at least a “why did you order another insert item here?!”), but it’s actually become a favorite little tradition of ours.

Most couples might argue about all the packages showing up, but for us? It’s more like, “Oh! You ordered that? That’s actually really smart.” (Not always, but most of the time.) We don’t always see eye to eye on everything, but we both have a knack for ordering things that genuinely make life better—whether it’s something for the house, the kids, or a random gadget we didn’t know we needed until Amazon recommended it.

Wrapping Up Winter Sports & Springing Forward

Our boys finished up basketball season, and honestly, I’m going to miss the squeaky shoes, weekend games, and post-practice “I’m starving” snacks. But as one sport ends, another begins: baseball and flag football season are upon us.

Cheering on our kids is one of our greatest joys—whether it’s the boys running touchdowns or striking out batters, or our girls performing at dance recitals and musical numbers. Being a parent in this season of life is nonstop, yes, but it’s also nonstop awesome. There’s nothing quite like seeing your kids do what they love and being there on the sidelines (or front row) for it all.

Family Planning (No, Not That Kind)

If you’ve been following for a while, you know I’ve never been much of a “financial planning guy.” But something about 2025 has shifted for me. This month we sat down with our financial planner and accountant to really map out what we want our future to look like.

We talked about life insurance (because being a responsible adult is apparently trendy now), budgeting, long-term savings, and family goals. We didn’t just look at numbers—we looked at values. What kind of legacy do we want to leave? What goals do we want to achieve in five, ten, even twenty years? I’ve never been more excited to talk spreadsheets, and I never thought I’d say that sentence.

Modern Dad Consulting: Building, Growing, Dreaming

The consulting side of my business has been gaining traction, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’ve had the chance to work with some amazing clients this month, helping other creators and businesses navigate the world of branding, content strategy, and digital growth.

There are a few exciting partnerships and opportunities on the horizon too. I’ve had a couple meetings with potential new clients that got me pumped for what’s to come. This side of the business has become something I genuinely love, and I’m looking forward to watching it grow and evolve.

Something Big Is Coming (But I’m Not That Guy, I Swear)

Now, I’m not usually the guy that says, “Big things coming, stay tuned,” and then disappears for six months. But… big things might actually be coming. I’ve had a few ideas stewing for a while now, and this month gave me the clarity and motivation to start turning them into something real.

I’m not ready to spill the beans just yet, but I’ll say this: if you like what The Modern Dad has been about so far—family, real-life parenting, dad humor, and actually helpful recommendations—you’re going to love where things are headed.

In Conclusion: Bring It On, April

So yeah, March was kind of like spring cleaning, but for our life. We took inventory, cleared out some clutter (both mental and financial), made a plan, and had some fun along the way. Unboxing packages, cheering on our kids, meeting with financial advisors—2025 is shaping up to be a big year, and March set the tone for all of it.

Thanks for being here. Thanks for following along. And thanks for laughing with us (and sometimes at us) as we share the real side of parenthood, partnerships, and everything in between.

Let’s see what April has in store. (Hopefully not more snow.)
