There’s a special kind of motivation that kicks in when the kids finally go down for a nap. It’s not quite enough time to tackle a full backyard renovation—but it’s the perfect window to knock out a satisfying, high-impact yard project. I’m not in the throws of nap time anymore, but we are still trying to squeeze projects in in between spring sports, callings, drop offs and pick ups! If you’ve been staring out the window thinking, “I should really do something about that,” this list is for you. These quick weekend yard projects are realistic, manageable, and designed to be completed before the monitor crackles back to life.
1. Refresh Your Flower Beds
This week I turned to Instagram to figure out which garden hoe I needed for giving our house an instant facelift. We needed to pull weeds and add a fresh layer of mulch. Doing that can completely transform your yard in under an hour. I wasn’t able to do it all in one sitting, I had to focus on one small section at a time and of course get the kids involved. But now that it’s done it looks so good and I’m glad I took that time to do it!
2. Create a Simple Outdoor Seating Spot
You don’t need a full patio makeover to make your yard more inviting. Rearrange existing chairs, add an outdoor rug, bring out a small side table, or power wash the winter grime off your furniture. If you’ve got string lights sitting in the garage, this is your moment. A cozy corner can come together quickly and makes a big difference for evening hangouts. But if you do need a spruce up check out the new patio furniture that we just got and already love here!
3. Power Wash a Small Area
If you’ve never used a power washer, prepare to feel wildly accomplished. Choose a small, defined space like your front walkway, porch, or part of the driveway. The before-and-after difference is immediate and oddly satisfying—perfect for a short burst of productivity. Don’t forget to take before and after pictures to feel really accomplished!
4. Start a Mini Garden Box
Raised garden beds sound like a big project, but a small planter box or even a few pots can be done fast. Plant herbs like basil, mint, or chives for a low-maintenance win. It’s quick, practical, and gives you something to feel proud of every time you step outside.
5. Edge Your Lawn
If you’ve been following along on IG you know that I love making sure my lawn looks great, and one of the ways to make your yard look dramatically more polished. Clean edges along sidewalks and driveways create that crisp, finished look—even if the rest of the yard isn’t perfect.
6. Hang a Bird Feeder or Outdoor Decor
A small touch like a bird feeder, wind chime, or seasonal wreath can bring life into your yard with minimal effort. It’s also something kids love noticing later, which makes it feel like a win for everyone. And check out our new Knot and Spool ribbon collection that is the perfect spring touch for your wreath!
7. Declutter the Yard
Grab a garbage can, your kids, and do a quick sweep: stray toys, broken planters, random sticks, and anything that’s been lingering too long. You’ll be surprised how much cleaner your space feels with just a quick reset. Major dad hack: if there is a lot of things that need to be cleaned up make sure you do this right before garbage day so you can get the garbage can to the curb!
Make It Count
Nap time projects aren’t about perfection—they’re about progress. When you keep the scope small, you actually finish things. With my ADHD I often get distracted and start a new task before finishing the current task, but finishing feels good. Over a few weekends, these small wins stack up into a yard you actually enjoy spending time in!
So next time the house gets quiet, skip the scroll (just this once) and step outside. You’ve got just enough time to make something better.
