Every year when the weather starts warming up, I get the same urge—to clean everything. The sun starts shining a little longer here in Utah, the windows get opened, and suddenly I notice all the things in my house that could use some attention.
Closets.
The garage.
That one junk drawer that somehow multiplies overnight.
Spring just has a way of making you want a fresh start.
The problem is…I know myself.
If I followed my natural instincts, I would start every single project at once. I’d pull everything out of every closet, half organize three rooms, begin a garage cleanout, and then somehow end the weekend with my house looking worse than when I started.
Thank you, ADHD.
Over time I’ve learned something important about how I work: a plan actually helps me get more done, even if it feels slower in the moment. When I focus on one project at a time instead of ten, things actually get finished.
That’s why I love the idea of a clean slate—one weekend at a time.
Instead of trying to overhaul your entire home in one exhausting burst of motivation, this approach breaks things down into simple two-day cleaning plans each month. Just one weekend. One focus. One set of spaces to tackle. Which is why I wrote this guide and follow it every time I’m ready to clean everything in my house.
It’s realistic for busy families, and it doesn’t require blocking out an entire week of your life to make progress.
Each month’s guide focuses on manageable areas of the home and includes:
• Two-day cleaning plans that break projects into doable chunks
• Family-friendly tricks to get everyone involved (yes, even the kids)
• Printable checklists so you can see your progress
• Quick-win routines that make the house feel better fast
What I love most about this system is that it removes the pressure to do everything at once. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to start where you are and chip away at it little by little.
Because the truth is, when your home feels calmer and more organized, everything else feels easier too.
The mornings run smoother.
The evenings feel less chaotic.
And you spend less time looking for things that somehow disappeared into the house.
So if you’re feeling that same spring cleaning energy but also know you might burn out halfway through a massive project, try something different this year.
Pick one weekend.
Follow the plan.
Check a few things off the list.
Then next month, do it again.
Before you know it, you’ll look around and realize something amazing happened—your home feels lighter, calmer, and more manageable, one weekend at a time.
