Get Your Mahj On: Inside Our Mahjong Event That Brought Everyone Together

I’ll be honest…we had a feeling this would be fun.

But we didn’t realize it would turn into one of the most talked-about Mahjong events we’ve ever been part of.

What started as a simple idea—“What if we just got people together to play Mahjong?”—quickly turned into something way bigger than we imagined.

How It All Started

It all began with a conversation between me, Abi, and Tara.

“What if we threw a Mahjong event where people could just come play?”

No pressure. No expectations. Just a chance to connect, learn, and have fun.

So…we did it.

And let’s just say—people showed up.

130+ People, One Goal: Learn & Play Mahjong

We hosted our “Get Your Mahj On” event in partnership with Stampin’ Up!, and the turnout blew us away.

👉 Over 130 people came ready to learn and play Mahjong

And here’s what surprised us the most:

It wasn’t just about playing…

👉 People genuinely wanted to learn

There’s something really special about Mahjong right now—it’s social, it’s strategic, and honestly, it just brings people together in a way that feels refreshing.

The Vibes: Connection, Laughter & A Lot of Tiles

From the moment people walked in, the energy was exactly what we hoped for.

  • Tables full of people learning together
  • New friendships forming
  • Laughter (and a little competitive energy 👀)
  • Zero pressure—just a good time

It felt less like an “event” and more like a community night out.

And that’s exactly what we were going for.

Let’s Talk About the Details (Because They Were GOOD)

We didn’t just want this to be a Mahjong night—we wanted it to feel like an experience.

🎉 Giveaways

We gave away 60+ prizes throughout the night (yes…60+ 😳). Mahjong sets, Stanley cups, more products that you could even imagine, gift baskets, and gift cards. We did everything to make sure there were lots of gifts.

🍪 Food & Drinks

We had some amazing local favorites helping us out:

  • Treats from Sweet Tooth Fairy (not to mention, the entire sucker station where people could grab mine and Abi’s sucker flavors).
  • Drinks from Thirst Drinks
  • Food from Kneaders

Safe to say—no one left hungry.

The Goodie Bags (A Personal Favorite)

Every guest left with a goodie bag packed with some seriously fun items:

We wanted people to walk away feeling like they got more than just a night out—and based on the feedback, I think we nailed it.

🀄 The 2026 Mahjong Card (and a Fun Creative Twist)

One of the coolest parts of the night—and something people loved—was that we had the brand new 2026 official Mahjong cards available.

If you’ve played Mahjong before, you know how exciting it is to get your hands on the new card each year. It’s basically your roadmap for the game, and having the most current version just makes everything feel official.

But we didn’t stop there…

We wanted to make it a little more fun and a little more personal.

So each card came with a plastic cover, and we set things up so people could customize and decorate their own.

And let me tell you—this was a hit.

We saw:

  • People adding their own style and personality
  • Friends sitting together decorating how they wanted
  • Cards turning into something more than just game pieces

It became part of the experience.

Instead of just handing someone a Mahjong card, we gave them something they could:
👉 Make their own
👉 Take home
👉 And use every time they play

It added that extra layer of creativity that made the night feel even more memorable—and honestly, it’s something we’ll 100% be doing again next time.

What We Learned

This is the part that stuck with me the most.

People are craving:

  • Connection
  • Something new to try
  • A reason to get out of the house

And Mahjong just…works.

It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and creates instant interaction.

👉 The biggest takeaway?

People didn’t just want to play—they wanted to learn together.

And that’s what made the night so special.

Will We Do It Again?

Short answer?

Probably.

Long answer?

Absolutely—we’d be crazy not to.

It was too fun, too meaningful, and honestly…too successful not to bring it back.

Final Thoughts: Why You’ll Want to Come Next Time

If you’ve been curious about Mahjong, or just looking for something different to do…

This is it.

It’s not just about the game—it’s about:

  • Meeting new people
  • Trying something new
  • Laughing a lot
  • And walking away already excited for the next one

So if you missed this one…

👉 Don’t miss the next.

Because if this event taught us anything—it’s that Mahjong nights are just getting started.

Loved the event and how nice it was to meet people and play for a night! The prizes, food, and card set up were all amazing extras. Everyone was very nice and genuine. I would request at another to have paper with geographical areas where we could put “NORTHERN UTAH”, “SOUTHERN UTAH”etc at the top with lines to fill in email, phone numbers (or some way to cot act those who just want to play hit need groupies!) That way at the end anyone wishing can snap a picture and reach out. I found a woman who plays near me but they charge (I wont pay to play weekly) It was wonderful and I appreciate the event. Thank you!
