SIDELINE ESSENTIALS EVERY DAD SHOULD KEEP IN THE CAR

Spring sports as a dad isn’t just show up and cheer, it’s a mobile survival mission. If you don’t pack right, you’ll feel it fast, especially in Utah where you might have all four seasons in one single game. But this dad has you covered with a list of things you’ll need this spring!

1. The Comfort Kit

A solid camp chair or two, or even one of those rows that have a bunch of seats together. Bleachers and grass get old fast. Toss in a few blankets and gloves for the cold, early morning games, because spring lies about the weather. If you’re sitting on bleachers though check out these chairs!

2. Snacks & Drinks (for everyone, not just the kids)

You’ll be out longer than you think, especially if you have multiple games in a row. Keep a stash of non-perishable items:

  • Protein bars/trail mix
  • Electrolytes or sports drinks
  • A cooler with water and easy grab snacks

If you’re hungry, you’re not a fun sideline dad.

3. Backup Clothes

For your kid:

  • Extra socks-mud, rain, spills, it happens every game
  • Hoodie or jacket

For you:

  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Light rain jacket

4. The “Game Saver” Bag

This is the clutch stuff:

  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray or these bug stickers
  • First Aid Kit
  • Small Towel
  • Wet wipes
  • Handwarmers–you never know what the weather is going to be

5. Entertainment for Downtime

If you’ve got multiple kids or long gaps:

  • Football, frisbee, soccer ball, or a small game
  • Something for younger siblings–throw your church bag in the car if you forget to pack anything

6. Phone Charger or Power Bank

You’ll be:

  • Taking pictures and videos
  • Checking schedules
  • Texting other parents

The worst thing is when your phone dies and you miss catching the winning play on video!

7. The Dad Essentials

  • Cash–the snack shack always has issues
  • Foldable wagon–absolute game-changer so you don’t turn into a camel
  • Clipboard or small notebook if you’re helping coach
  • This free standing umbrella, that will change your life, and those around you!
  • Iglu the wearable sleeping bag, you’ll thank me later

If you want to level up: keep everything in a dedicated “sports bin” so you’re not rebuilding this setup every weekend. What do you keep in your car for those long spring game days? Let me know in the comments below!
