As a dad it is so important to make sure that I am spending individual time with my kids, but it can be really hard with sports and work to get time in. But you don’t need to go do a really big adventure every single time, you can do simple things that are close to home and still make memories!
Bike Ride

We love riding our bikes, and our kids love jumping in the back of our Madsen Cycle bike and going up and down the hills without doing any of the work. A bike ride is such a fun way to go on an adventure and you can bike to a snow cone place and get a cold treat too! Crank the tunes and take one or all the kids for a fun father-kid adventure.
Fishing at the Local Park
When Nixon got old enough to go to church camp, he discovered a love for fishing and if you know me, I don’t love doing anything like that. But I will do anything for my kids. Fishing at the local park is such a great way to have an adventure, without having to pack everything up and set up a tent. Bonus points if you go on a bike ride to get to the park!
Saturday Morning Donut Run
The easiest things can be the most memorable! Taking a kid with you on a 10 minute car ride and let them pick the music or talk about whatever they want to talk about and just listen. I promise these early mornings can be the most impactful time of your week and the kids will be begging to go with you.
Drink Run
Same concept as a donut run, take the time and make the memories. And don’t forget your wife wants a drink too!
Say Yes
What is the one thing your kid is always asking to do, but you don’t have the time, money, energy, plug in your excuse? Figure out a way to say yes to that adventure and go all in. Their eyes will light up and they will talk about it for the rest of the summer!
Library Adventure Day
Emily is the library goer in our house, which makes it extra special when dad goes along or if dad takes them one on one. Go and have them pick out a book that you can read together every night, pick a movie that you’ve been talking about watching, sit and read books in the library with them, such a great and easy way to have an adventure.
Mini Road Trip Within 30 Minutes
Challenge yourselves to discover something you’ve always wanted to see but you’ve never been able to. A new hiking trail, historical site, small-town ice cream shop, or a local museum.
Father-Kid Service Adventure
Serving together is such a great way to deepen your bond. Whether it’s pulling weeds for a neighbor, making bread together, putting out flags, or cleaning up a local park. Kids learn that adventures can include helping others.
You don’t need an expensive vacation to have a great summer. Consistent time with Dad is so important. So whether you plan a weekly date with each kid or every week you switch off who gets to go, they will remember you spending the time and taking an interest in them, and the connection you have.
