Here’s something you should know about me: I’m not a salt person.
I know. That feels almost illegal to say when I share as many recipes as I do, but I rarely add extra salt to anything. I’ve never been the person who sits down at the table and immediately reaches for the salt shaker. Most of the time, I’d rather have less salt than more.
And then I tried a m. SALT.
I pulled it back out when I was making my Kamut pretzels the other day and immediately thought, WHY DO I FORGET HOW GOOD THIS STUFF IS?!
So naturally, it deserves its own blog post.
How I Discovered a m. SALT
My introduction to a m. SALT happened at Pinners Conference last year. They told me I needed to come over to their booth and try their salt.
Again, I’m not a salt guy, so I wasn’t exactly expecting some life-changing experience here.
Then I tasted it.
WHAT?!
I was instantly shocked at how good it was. This wasn’t just something that made food taste saltier. It added actual flavor.
And there’s a reason for that.
a m. SALT’s Signature SALT isn’t simply table salt. It combines flake salt and Baja sea salt with garlic, onion, parsley, chile, paprika, sage, oregano, red pepper, black pepper, and cayenne. The company actually calls it its “12 in 1 Salt”because it can take the place of multiple seasonings in your spice cabinet.
Basically, this is salt for people like me who don’t really love salt.
What Makes a m. SALT Different?
I think what surprised me most was that the flavor wasn’t overwhelmingly salty. The blend is designed to enhance what you’re cooking without overpowering it.
Their Signature SALT starts with Baja sea salt naturally harvested from the Sea of Cortez, along with flake salt. The sea salt naturally contains trace minerals including magnesium, potassium, and calcium. The herbs and spices are sourced and blended in small batches, and the Signature SALT is made without gluten, added sugar, MSG, chemicals, or anti-caking agents.
It’s also made in small batches in America, which I love.
But beyond all of those details, it just tastes really good. And for me, that’s ultimately what matters.
The Kamut Pretzels Reminded Me How Much I Love It
I recently made Kamut pretzels for my after-school snack series and used a m. SALT on them.
That was my reminder.
You know when you rediscover something in your pantry and suddenly wonder why you haven’t been using it on EVERYTHING?
That was me.
The salt on top of a warm, homemade pretzel was SO GOOD. You get the saltiness you want on a pretzel, but then all of those herbs and spices bring another layer of flavor.
And now the container has officially earned a spot where I can actually see it so I stop forgetting about it. 😂
What Can You Use a m. SALT On?
This is where it gets really easy: pretty much anything you would normally season.
a m. SALT recommends using its Signature SALT on everything from avocado toast to proteins, and you can simply finish your recipe with it to taste.
I’m thinking eggs, vegetables, potatoes, chicken, steak, burgers, soups, avocado toast, homemade bread and—obviously—PRETZELS.
I especially like the idea of keeping it nearby when I’m cooking because instead of pulling out six different seasonings, you can reach for one.
Less thinking. Less digging through the spice cabinet. More flavor.
That is my kind of cooking.
They Have More Than Just the Signature SALT
The Signature SALT is what originally sold me on the brand, but a m. SALT also makes Vanilla Baking SALT and Citrus Chili SALT, plus bundles and a refillable salt cellar.
The Vanilla Baking SALT especially has my attention because, hello, I BAKE. It combines salt, cane sugar, and vanilla beans and is intended to be used in baking or as a finishing salt for that sweet-and-salty combination.
I clearly have some experimenting to do.
Want to Try a m. SALT?
If you’re someone who loves seasoning, I think you’re going to have a lot of fun with this.
But if you’re like me and you’re sitting there thinking, “Jason, I don’t even really like salt…”
THAT’S EXACTLY WHY I’M TELLING YOU ABOUT IT.
I wasn’t looking for a new salt. I didn’t think I needed a new salt. They basically had to convince me to come over to their booth and try it.
And then they got me.
You can shop a m. SALT here and use code MODERNDAD for a discount.
And when you get it, put it somewhere you can see it. Apparently some of us need that reminder. 😂
