It’s half way through summer and it’s hot, you’re kids are sick of the pool, and you are sick of video games and the fighting. But what else is there to do except go to the pool? One thing I love that we use all the time is the Get Out Pass. There is so much that they offer and are in multiple states, so check it out and use code MODERNDAD for a discount. There is soooo much to do in Utah, check out some of our favorite things, and somethings we are wanting to try!
Reservoirs and Hot Springs
If you have adventurous kids and teens try taking them to a reservoir or hot spring! It’s a great way to spend the day and break out of your “boring” summer routine. Check out our list here.
Splash Pads and Pools
Maybe your kids aren’t sick of going to the pool, maybe the problem is you need to mix it up and try a new one! Check out this list of splash pads and pools to try out in Utah and let me know which one is your new favorite!
What’s Happening in Utah Today
Did you know there are two websites dedicated to what is happening in Utah today? I had no idea. I’m sure other states have them too!
- Utah Agenda let’s you check things that are happening all over Utah. Anything from concerts, to fireworks, to musicals, to food trucks. Check it out here and have your kids plan your next family outing!
- If you’re looking for things specific to Utah County check out Utah Valley Events for everything happening in Utah Valley. Art shows, rug tufting, outdoor movie nights, there is something for everyone.
- You can also refine the search to free things happening here.
Sports
We are so lucky to have a mix of professional and amateur teams here in Utah, and while it might not be the season for each, there is always stuff going on!
- RSL games–These are so much fun, even if you aren’t into soccer. The World Cup is finishing up and your kids might be really excited to go to a game.
- Bee’s games–The Salt Lake Bees are a Triple A affiliate to the Los Angeles Angels, so sometimes you get to see some professional players on a rehab stint. But even if you don’t get to see Mike Trout, the new stadium is fantastic! You can go on a Dirty Soda day, or a normal game and everyone will have a ton of fun!
- College teams–Check out what your favorite college team has going on during the summer. There might be games or meets you can take your kids to that you don’t normally get to see.
- Summer League–We are lucky enough to have a NBA team here in Utah and there were summer league games earlier this summer. We might’ve missed it this year, but remember it for next year.
- Summer is also the time to see Rodeos–I love going to a rodeo it is so fun, and such a great family event! Some might sell out quickly, but you can check out Days of ’47 Rodeo the week of July 20th here!
More Family Fun
- Sunrise and Sunset at Hogle Zoo–this event is specifically for members, but depending on how many people are in your family, if you go to the zoo twice, it normally pays for your membership. Enjoy seeing the animals for an extra hour, do some sunrise yoga, and enjoy the zoo with less crowds. Check out the details here.
- Maybe your kids are sick of seeing the zoo animals and just want to see birds. Mix it up by going to the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake.
- If you have a dinosaur lover there are multiple museums you can check out here. Or check out the Moab Giants.
- Treehouse Children’s Museum is so great for younger kids. Located in Ogden check this out if you want an inside activity.
- Hill Aerospace Museum–Fun for everyone and it’s FREE!
- Thanksgiving Point is always changing up their attractions–check out the new Imaginary 250 Ultimate Kids Summer Fest. It’s so fun and a great way for kids to learn about America. You can check it out here.
- St. George Children’s Museum–If you’re planning a trip to St. George check out the children’s museum, it’s so great!
- Discovery Gateway Museum–One of our favorite places to take our kids, there is so much to do. But they are closed on TUESDAYS!
- Living Planet Aquarium–A great place to pass time inside this summer! It’s fun to see all the animals and your kids might just learn something.
- Clark Planetarium–Another great place to take your kids and sneak in some extra learning this summer.
- Did you know we have Ghost Towns in Utah??? I didn’t, but I probably should’ve guessed! Take your more adventurous kids to check them out and let me know how it is!
- Festivals–If you are into festivals you can check out a complete list here of upcoming festivals happening all over Utah throughout the whole year.
- Emily loves a good art museum and you know we’ve visited a lot, but haven’t made it to everyone of these. Maybe that’s next summer’s goal?
- Float the Provo River–this sounds like so much fun, but I bet it is cold! Grab a group of kids and take them and you’ll be the coolest parent of the summer!
- Visit Timpanogos Cave–This would be such a great morning activity before it’s too hot and then go see everything in the cave and cool down.
