How are we already finished with March? Time flies! This month I read some fun books and just when I think I can’t out do the last month, I always do! I’ll tell you what I read and why I liked them with a 5 star rating scale. I want you to spend time reading books that you’ll really love! So here is my March reading review!
The UnSelected Journals of Emma M. Lyon by Beth Brower
This is my favorite read of the year! Emma Lyons is has quickly become one of my favorite people. She brings laughter and joy to the most tragic of circumstances. It is a story of friendship and connection. It will leave you laughing and crying. I feel like I just joined a friendship club and want to be right in the action with Emma and her friends.
I’m on the last book and dreading it coming to an end. There will be more books in the series (24 total) but only the first eight are available right now. I’m hopeful they’ll come out quick! The only problem with this series is that you have to read them, there is no audible but once there is, you better believe we’ll all be listening. If you’re looking for a good investment and an instant friendship, you have to purchase the whole series.
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
I’ve had this book for a couple of years. I just don’t read physical books as often as I’d like. I realized that I might never read it, so I listened to it and man was it good. Read by Meryl Streep, the heartwarming story about a former actress, Lara Nelson, and her three adult daughters.
Set in rural Michigan during the pandemic, the novel takes place on the family’s cherry farm. As they pick cherries they beg their mother to tell the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor who she shared both stage and romance with at the theater.
As she reflects on the past it makes each girl examine her own life. It was fun to see how sometimes the best parts of life are what we didn’t know expect to come our way.
As the girls hear the story of their moms famous past, they wonder what life would be like if their mom had stayed with her famous lover. As is life, they came to the conclusion that life is perfect just the way it is.
Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld
This was a reread for me! I don’t know what it is but I love a good romantic comedy. I can plow right through them and I always get a smile on my face as I read them.
Sally, a comedic writer for a show similar to SNL, writes off love or so she thinks. Something happens when famous musician Danny Horst hosts the show, a connection, a spark but then nothing.
A few years later she receives an email from Danny and begins to correspond with him. It’s amazing what happens when we let down our barriers and open up our hearts.
The Life She Wants by Robyn Carr
Emma Shay’s glamorous life is abruptly called to an end when she finds out her husband wasn’t who she thought.
She is forced to return to her home town, which she hadn’t been to since college and confront some unresolved issues from the past. It is really a Cinderella story and you’ll come to love Emma and her determined heart.
This was a free audible read. So if you’re looking for something quick to listen to, this will be a good one.
Every Summer After by Carley Fortune
Do you remember summers as a child? Nothing more magical than that! Persephone grew up going to the lake during her summers as a teen. Her time was spent with one special friend Sam.
You know the story. They are perfect for each other but end up going different directions. Until Sam’s mother dies and Persephone returns for the funeral. Will she see Sam? Can they repair their past? I loved the simplicity of their story and instantly felt their connection.
How to Keep House While Drowning by: KC Davis
Do you feel overwhelmed with the simple tasks of life? Or maybe you’re looking for systems to increase effectiveness. This is the book for you.
I generally have a very well kept house. Everything has a place and although it’s not perfect all the time, I can get it to perfect in less than an hour. This book was not written for me.
This book was written for someone who is completely overwhelmed with life, literally drowning. It takes you through basic tasks, helps create habits and systems that will bring you back to life and cleanliness.
If you know someone who is struggling with the basics, cleanliness, housekeeping or general confidence, this might be a guide for how to help. I’m not sure someone drowning in life would actually read this book but a good friend or family member might use it as a tool to help rescue them.
