Emily’s March Reads

It’s that time again for when Emily share’s her favorite books she’s been reading. She was reading more as we were living in Salt Lake, but commuting to Bountiful for school and practices as we were going through the remodel. Now that we are back that might slow down, but we shall see.

Anyways, here are Emily’s reads for the month of March. If you’re looking for some great books for adults, here is her list!

You know I love to read! I have survived the months of the remodel with my books and this month was no different. Here are a few of my favorite reads and the books my kids are loving right now too. Here’s a link to our favorite kids books!

“The Love Hypothesis” by Ali Hazelwood

This was a re-read for me. There are a few books that if given time, you can go back to and this was one of those for me. You know how some nights you just need to sit down and watch a chick flick? This is one of those books. It is just good happy romance.

When Olive bumps into a guy in the bathroom she has no idea the impact that meet cute will have on her life. Learn the lengths she goes to help a friend out, even pretend dating someone. Will it work out? You’ll have to read to find out.

“The Gown” by Jennifer Robson

A wonderful historical fiction story based on the women who embroidered Queen Elizabeth’s wedding gown. It is focused on the struggles of post war life in England and weaves a beautiful connection of generations. I loved seeing the bond of friendships that become family and choosing to make the most of life. It was a delightful read.

“Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice” by Ellie Cosimano

If you haven’t read this series, it is such a fun read. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time and trying to cover up stuff to help the people you love. This is the 4th book of the series and I was getting a little stressed out by all the covering up that has had to happen. Can’t wait for what the next book brings.

“The Museum of Ordinary People” by Mike Gayle

Everyone has items that they hang on to because there is a beautiful memory attached to them. I have so many! This was the perfect book for me to read as I was putting my house back together from the move.

Following the death of her mother, Jess has to empty her mother’s house. The hardest thing for her to get rid of was a set of encyclopedias. It brought back wonderful memories but she didn’t have a place to keep them in her boyfriend’s perfectly styled apartment. Then she hears of a place that takes random objects for people, A museum of ordinary people. See how the discovery of this museum changes her life.

“A Place to Hang the Moon” by Kate Albus

This book reminded me of Narnia and it is free on Audible. When the grandmother of three children die, they decide their best bet of staying together is to escape on the train and be placed with the other children of the town. It takes place during the war and children were placed with families to wait out the war. It is filled with brave interactions of siblings, a love of books and a wonderful friend who changes their life.

“I Survived” by Lauren Tarshis

Nixon’s favorite series right now are the “I Survived” books. They take people who survived a big event in history and tell their story. He rarely will sit down and read an entire book in one sitting but with these books, he can!

“Whatever After” by Sarah Myelinowski

This is Olive’s current obsession. Whatever After books are about a girl who has a magic mirror that takes her into fairy tales and she helps solve fractured stories. It’s fun because the story line is similar but you can never predict what is actually happening. There are over 20 books and they are just as fun to listen to as they are to read.

“Bad Guys” by Aaron Blabey

Will is totally into the Bad Guys series. He loves that graphic novels, comics are quick to read but also have pictures to help visualize the plot. The characters have such fun and unique personalities that it is always an adventure. I think this series is up to 19 books.

Favorite Picture Books

Alice is all about the read aloud. Here are her three favorites.

Flora Flamingo is a wordless book, but every single one of my kids can do the dance and I can probably repeat the instructions in my sleep. It’s darling and she loves dressing like a ballerina when we read this book.

Room on the Broom is a classic and we read it all year long! If your kids are into it, there is a 20 minute video that we have gotten our money’s worth from.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has been added to our mix because Alice has been doing variations at preschool. It’s darling watching her retell the story.

So if you’re a reader or not, here are a few of our favorites!
