One Step at a Time

I will be the first to say it, I can be lazy when it comes to cleaning. There, I said it. I know that I get on kicks where I have to make sure every corner in the house is perfect, the carpet has lines in it from vacuuming, and there isn’t a speck of dust on anything. Well, I have come to the conclusion that having kids changes everything.

I was the guy that would make sure the house was vacuumed every single day (no exaggeration), the bathrooms were spotless all the time, and the laundry baskets were only full because all the clothes were clean and folded and I needed to put them away.

Now that I have my amazing son, who loves to make more laundry, has more toys out then away, and needs someone’s constant attention my priorities have changed.

The best part is, I wouldn’t change a thing. This new chapter in my life has made me realize what my real priorities are. If I am at work all day the last thing I want to do when I get home is clean the entire house and not spend quality time with my family. Now I make sure to spend that quality time, and then once everyone is calmed down, in bed, and not needing me, I can get a few things done.

The funny thing is, cleaning, for me, is very therapeutic. It is my way to get things done, but at the same time gives me time to think about everything that I really need to focus on. It is a time that I can plan out my schedule for the week, make sure I am doing everything to obtain my goals, and, the obvious, clean the house.

So this week I don’t have any freshening tips or tricks for you, rather I say spend time with those you love, but don’t leave it off until you have a huge mess. Maybe break it down by days so that you can fit everything into your hectic schedule. It can be as easy as not taking your shoes off and leaving them where they don’t belong. Even wiping down the bathroom with a Clorox wipe once in a while can really freshen things up.

Just make it so that you’re not thinking you have to conquer the whole house at once, but if you break it up into smaller pieces it will make things that much more manageable.
