Well, it’s been over a month since I ran the marathon. Something about this marathon though has completely changed my life. Was it the fact that I saw my name in lights as I finished the TCS New York City Marathon? Maybe. Or maybe it’s much more than that.
Have I Changed?
Each time I sign up for a race I work hard every single day. Then when that races comes up and I finish I finish running. I completely stop and figure I’ll just start running again once I sign up for another race. Not this time! I mean, I wrote a running guide I should probably keep following it.
I worked hard and realized I want to keep the hard work going. So much time goes into training for a marathon, but now I can take it easier. I don’t have to run a 18-miler this week and it’s okay. But I have now brought my body to a place where I need to run. I need to keep my body moving and I love it.
Running Routine to Cleaning Routine
Saturday is usually the day I love to get up and get to cleaning. When I was training, I wasn’t able to get that cleaning in that I truly loved. Without having to take up so much time for training, I can get out my cleaning brushes and clean the house again.
I know what you’re thinking, “Jason, you are crazy. You didn’t really miss cleaning!” Ummm…clearly you don’t know me do you. I love cleaning as much as I love running. These are my two ways to clear my mind and figure things out. So yes, I really did miss it and I am grateful to scrub those floors again.
What’s Next for Me?
Moving forward from here I see great things. I see more marathons, but what about taking it to the next level? I told Emily, “What if I set the goal to compete in an ironman before I am 40?”
“If anyone can do it, you can!” she said. Now, it’s not going to be something I do over night. It’s going to take small steps and daily motivation, but I know that when I set myself a goal I will do everything I have to achieve it.
I turn 38 in a couple months, so that gives me two years to complete this. I know I can do it! It’s going to take training, research, and really preparing myself what that next step in my life. If I set myself up for it I know I can do it. Get ready because this is going to be a whole new experience.
