Book Lovers Unite! Here are Emily’s Reads for September

Another month, another reading list! Here are some of my favorite reads from the month of September. Did you read something you couldn’t put down? Tell me all the books! I’m always looking for something to read!

“And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie

During the summer my kids became obsessed with the movie/game Clue. The second I started this book I thought of Clue. It was a very similar story line. Several people are brought to an island and find out they are accused of crimes from their past. Each day a different person dies and you will never guess who the killer is! If you like a mystery then this is a book for you!

“The Keeper of Happy Endings” by Barbara Davis

An enchanting novel about fate, second chances and perfect placement of people in our lives. Rory in a final attempt to get over her broken heart decides to open an art gallery and meets Soline Roussel, a famous French dress maker. I loved reading about how they connected and were able to heal each other’s broken hearts. It is a book I could absolutely read again!

“Summer Fridays” Suzanne Rindell

If you love “You’ve Got Mail” then you’ll love this book! All about a freshly engaged editorial assistant who winds up spending her “summer Fridays” with the person she least expects. Remember dial up internet and instant messenger?

Summer 1999: Sawyer is striving to make it in New York. Between her assistant job in publishing, her secret dreams of becoming a writer, and her upcoming wedding to her college boyfriend, her is plate full. The problem: Her fiancé is spending more and more time at work with a female co-worker.

Sawyer suspects a relationship with the co-worker and meets up with Nick. She finds finds him cocky and cynical. But then Nick seeks out Sawyer online to apologize, and a friendship develops.

Soon her lonely summer is filled with Friday activities with Nick exploring the city. Who will she end up? You’ll find yourself needing an escape to New York after reading this!

“Pack up the Moon” by Kristan Higgins

The most darling book about love and loss.  Read about Josh and Lauren’s relationship and how she continues to share her love after her passing. It was so sweet to watch their love for each other grow through their intentional actions. Sorry to be brief but the mystery is what makes the book so amazing! I can’t wait to read it again!

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon

A modern classic about a boy with autism who sets out to solve the murder of a neighbor’s dog and discovers unexpected truths about himself and the world. I read this right after reading “Pack up the Moon” which also has a main character with autism.

Christopher John Francis Boone knows facts about everything! To calm his nerves he repeats math facts in his head and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow.

Read as Christopher goes on a quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog. It is heart warming and inspiring to see what is possible when you put your mind to something.

“Someone Else’s Shoes” by JoJo Moyes

When Sam grabs her gym bag in a rush to an important work meeting she doesn’t realize until it’s too late that she grabbed the wrong bag. It isn’t until she pulls out six-inch high Christian Louie Vuitton red crocodile shoes and a Chanel jacket that she knows the bag was definitely not hers. But the resulting jolt of confidence the shoes bring makes her realize something must change—and that thing is herself.

Nisha Cantor lives the life of the seriously wealthy, until her husband announces a divorce and cuts her off. Nisha is determined to hang onto her glamorous life. You’ve guessed it, those were her Louie Vuitton shoes. Watch how their mix up results in a wonderful friendship, giving both women a boost in the right direction.
