Dad’s have a tendency to forget important dates: anniversary, birthday, the day you met your wife, first kiss, etc. Let me remind you all right now, Mothers Day is THIS SUNDAY, May 11th and I am sure that you have forgotten to get the mother of your children or your own mother something that she will absolutely love.
Let me make this last minute shopping and gift giving a little easier for you this year.
After asking mothers of all ages I have come to the conclusion that they really just want a break. One day. Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so, but what does this mean for us dad’s? Well, it means that you pull out all the stops and really put your best foot forward showing your wife and mom how much they mean to you.
Some simple ideas are:
- Turn her alarm off when she’s sleeping: It is your turn to get up early, have breakfast ready, and have the kids all ready for church (or whatever you do on Sunday). You can do it! Everyone knows that it’s Mothers Day, which means people aren’t going to judge the way your kids hair looks or how they’re dressed. As long as you put forth an effort that means the most.
- Breakfast in Bed: You know your wife, and she doesn’t want to make breakfast for everyone on this day that’s all about her. It’s true! So you whip out the cook book now and plan your breakfast menu that will be served to her. Now if the kids get cereal that is fine, but mom gets her time to relax and not have to worry about the madness of breakfast.
- Clean up: You may have done the work to get this morning ready, but you get to be mom for the day. She shouldn’t lift a finger, let alone a dish. Make sure you are cleaning up after everything. A clean house makes a wife happier than ever.
When it comes to gifts and you still are at a loss for what she would love, try these:
- Pampering: I don’t know if you’ve got it yet, but your wife and mom like to be pampered. That being said, find her favorite place to get her nails done and get a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. Want to take it to the next level? Offer to take the kids while she gets that done. You should do this anyways, but she’ll love this because it’s like extending Mothers Day.
- More Pampering: Nothing in this world is harder than being a mom. They really deserve more credit for all they do that us dad’s can’t do: breast feeding, calming our screaming kids, and taking care of the whole sick family even when they’re sick. Hence the reason for more pampering. Get them an hour to hour and a half massage at their favorite place, believe me they have one. If they don’t, ask around. Someone you know will have a favorite place.
- CHOCOLATE: I’m mean can this be any more obvious? Women LOVE chocolate! So if you know this why am posting this if it’s so obvious? Well because we as men also have a tendency to be CHEAP!!! This is not the time to be cheap. You go out there and get the best chocolate there is out there. Getting chocolate covered strawberries is always fun too. A great place to amazing chocolate strawberries is Shari’s Berries. They’re huge, delicious, and a great price.
And finally, if you are feeling really adventurous try this suggestion:
- Clothes: We try to impress our wife with clothes that we think will look amazing, but when was the last time you saw your wear something you got her? If the answer to this question is when you gave it to her then this is not the option for you. But if your wife loves when you buy her something go with that AND when she tries it on you tell her how amazing she looks (but be sincere). Women LOVE words of affirmation, so let her know.
THE MOST CHERISHED GIFT YOU CAN GIVE YOUR WIFE OR MOTHER IS A NOTE EXPRESSING GRATITUDE.. This is something that is cheap (only costs your time), easy, and she will cherish it forever. What mom doesn’t save every little note and home made card that her children have given her, right? They mean the world to her. So take some time out of your busy day and let your mom or mother of your children know what they mean to you and how much you truly love them.
