Growing up I’m not going to say that I was the wildest kid on the block, but I got into my fair share of trouble. Cops were involved at times, but I never really thought anything of it. UNTIL NOW!
This past weekend we had just gotten home from a long day of work, driving all over the valley visiting friends and were exhausted. We were trying to put our son to bed when we heard this loud music at the park next door, literally louder than I would ever listen to music even in my home. Music blaring through the sky I thought it was just some punk kids trying to show off their cool sound system. This was not the case.
Turns out this music turned into some kind of rave and the park was packed with kids and the music wasn’t even good. Did this mean I was turning into my parents? Hating the music that kids are listening to? Not at all. It was the same music I listen to (Kayne, Jay Z, Ke$ha, etc), but for some reason tonight it was bugging me.
Now I have lived in places where neighbors were throwing parties, being loud and super annoying. Usually I don’t ever care. For the most part I go and join the fun, but when you have kids, suddenly something inside you changes. I became THAT GUY that calls the cops.
I didn’t get crazy because I had never called the cops before, I’ve only had cops called on me. So I didn’t know what to say to the dispatch guy on the other end of the line. “Ummmmm there is a party next door that’s too loud. And it’s annoying.” Ha ha ha ha…that is really what I said. I’ll have you know that I did wait until 10 pm to call just to avoid any “noise ordinance” responses.
“Where is the party at?” said the dispatch. I told him the location and he put me on hold for a second. He came back and told me that they had a permit for this “concert” until 11:00 pm. GREAT!!! This wasn’t good news and it made my love for cops diminish even more than it already had.
I figured there was nothing more I could do. So we went to bed, tossed and turned, until I looked at the clock and saw 11:02 pm. I picked up my phone, called dispatch back and said, “Okay! It’s past 11! They can stop now!” I had the friendliest tone in my voice and just wanted the noise to stop.
The part that made this little concert even worse was the fact that whoever this little DJ was had ADD or something because he couldn’t’ go through a whole song. Even though they were playing music I liked he would play all these random songs and then change them. Maybe it was a dumb game he was trying to play with the kids over there, but it was super annoying and driving me crazy.
So by 11:17 pm the music finally stopped and we were able to finally fall asleep.
I realized after all of this I am finally growing up. Granted I still can be a little crazy and super immature, but I try my best to respect those around and not to disturb the peace like I did when I was younger. The problem is, karma always comes back to haunt you in the end.
