Fall is here and I am loving it. Now the real question is, what do you do with all those apples you canned? Really there is nothing better than turning on the fireplace, popping in a movie and cuddling up with a warm bowl of apple crisp. Am I right?
There is honestly something about apples and cinnamon that make my day so much better. Then to top it off with some brown sugar and oatmeal, I feel like I am eating something somewhat healthy.
I remember growing up my mom would make my dad this concoction that she called apple crunch, because that is what his dad made for him as a child. Well, I was never a fan of it and so my mom would always make apple crisp for me. She really is the best mother ever!
Well, here is a simple family apple crisp recipe that won’t let you down. It will fill your home with the love and joy and the amazing aroma of cinnamon, my favorite fall scent. Enjoy!
- 3-5 med cooking apples (I like to use granny smith)
- 1 cup quick cooking oatmeal
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Peel and core apples (or use two jars that are already prepared). Slice thin in round. Grease pan and pour in apples. Mix oatmeal, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Mix in butter with fingers. Mixture will be crumbly. Sprinkle over apples, making a cover effect. Bake at 350º for about 35 minutes.
