Before I was married I didn’t know a thing about art. As a matter of fact, if you were to ask me the difference between a painting and a picture I wouldn’t know what to tell you. It’s amazing the things I have learned over the past three years being in a family of art enthusiasts. Once you know about art and painting though you start to realize it can become a very expensive hobby. But have you ever wanted to start your art collection and didn’t know where to start?
My father-in-law owns an art gallery here in Utah where he focus’s mostly on Utah artists. He has loved art his entire life and has quite the collection himself. He says, “Where do you begin? You start with something small and make small investments and then those can turn into something down the road.”
Currently David Ericson Fine Art is having a $100 art sale. “This is a way for people wanting to get quality pieces in their home, but never thought they could afford it,” says Ericson. No matter what you are looking for he has it there.
After I learned a little more about art as an investment I became slightly worried because we had a few huge pieces and a little guy running around the house. How do you keep your kids from ruining your art work? Well, you teach them about art at a young age. My son knows that he doesn’t touch the paintings or play around them. As a parent I have had to learn that if I want my child to appreciate something the way I do I have to teach him myself and show in my actions. It’s crazy the things kids pick up on. He loves looking at art and has great taste every museum/gallery we go to he picks out some go our favorite pieces.
See something you like? It’s the perfect way to start a collection yourself. Head to the gallery and grab your favorites today! Maybe you are looking for something a little more substantial? Head over and check out all the pieces he has in there from Brian Kershisnik, Lee Bennion, Jeffery Pugh, Michael Workman, Emily McPhie, Nate Ronniger (my personal favorite) and much more. Mention you saw this post and you can get a FREE drawing by E.J. Bird.
