Three years ago I took a girl to one of the biggest family traditions that my family participates in and haven’t regretted it once. In fact I believe the experience there only helped our relationship.
Taylorsville Dayzz has been a part of my family’s life for over 15 years and I am excited to continue that tradition with my little family. But what is it that makes Taylorsville Dayzz so fun and exciting? Let me tell you.
Food: Are you ready to taste all different types of food? Polynesian, Mexican, burgers, pizza, the possibilities are endless. I mean, really if you have ever been to any kind of fair we all know how addicting the food can be. You go for the food…and maybe the people watching.
Rides: I mean, who doesn’t want to get on a ride that just popped up in 15 minutes? Really though, if you have little kids, just get a few sheets of tickets and hop on the merry go round and petting zoo with them. No kids? No problem. There are plenty of fun rides for the adults.
Free Entertainment (not just the people watching): The Utah Symphony does a certain number of free shows a year, Taylorsville Dayzz happens to be one of them. Here is what you’ll plan:
- Thurday Night: Bring some blankets and lawn chairs (get there early) and lay them out on the grass. Grab some food of the local vendors and listen to the symphony with your family. While you are waiting for the symphony to start, head on over to the rides because this night all the rides are only $1. How do you pass that up? You don’t! Stay after the symphony (around 9:30 pm) for a FREE movie in the park: How to Train Your Dragon 2.
- Friday Night: If the Utah Symphony isn’t your thing, but Billy Joel and Elton John are, then you are in luck because there is a dueling piano tribute concert Friday night. Again, grab some food from the local vendors, hit up some rides and sit out in the grass field to enjoy the FREE concert. But wait, are you a firework fan? Because after the concert (around 10:00 pm) there will be about 15 minutes worth of fireworks.
- Saturday Night: If you aren’t already beat from all the day activities that happen this day then Saturday night is the night to be there. Another FREE concert including Elvis, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks and Cher…impersonators. People, it’s a FREE concert and it’s something fun to do Saturday night. Now I will warn you, it’s going to be packed because the firework show will blow your mind. Get your spot on the grass early, get your food stocked up and when the lights go out, it’s show time. Your only regret will be not going.
5K and Family Fun Run: Are you a runner? You don’t have to be, but the 5K is going to be so fun and will have Chik-fil-A at the end of the race. HELLO!!! Dream come true! All I have to do is run/walk 3.1 miles just to get some delicious breakfast. I am down! The 5K starts at 7:00 am and fun run is at 7:45, but don’t take too long because…
Parade: Who doesn’t love a parade? Especially a parade where you (and I guess your kids) will get more candy thrown to you than you will know what to do with. Not only that, my entire family is in the parade every year.
Watch for the Dunnigan vehicle honking it’s way down 5400 south. Parade starts at 9:00 am and goes from Redwood Road to 2700 west on 5400 south. If you get a spot towards the beginning of the route you will get much more candy than those at the end. Just a word to the wise.
Booths Galore: People have signed up to sell their products, give deals on services or just share information they are trying to get out there. You can get fun gifts, signs crafted for your home or stop by the many booths handing out information for local businesses.
Maybe Taylorsville Dayzz is just fun for me because my family has been participating in it for so long, but if it keeps getting bigger and bigger every year they must be doing something right. So pick a night, come over and enjoy spending time with your family.
